The genes belonging to the TRIM family are involved in several human genetic diseases. The protein products of the TRIM genes are characterized by the presence of a conserved module, the tripartite motif, which probably underlies a common basic function. We propose to study their role in ubiquitination, a post-translational modification important for protein level control, using a systematic approach on the entire family of genes as well as to investigate in more detail the function of a TRIM gene involved in a form of Muscular Dystrophy.
