The present call aims at funding basic and pre-clinical research projects focused on rare genetic diseases and conducted by researchers working in Italian public or private non-profit research institutions.

NEWS [10 March 2023] :

  • TRIAGE: considering the number of Application submitted to the II round, Fondazione Telethon decided to skip the Triage Phase, and to evaluate all the eligible projects (after the administrative and relevance checks now undergoing) directly in the Phase II Full Review.
  • According to the advice of the Scientific Committee, which, during the I round evaluation, decided not to score the project impact, as it was implied in the quality and feasibility section; the scoring criteria for the Application submitted to the II round have been updated accordingly; you can find the new criteria in the evaluation guidelines (both for Scientific Committee and for External Reviewers) at the bottom of the page.

NEWS [19 July 2022] :

The online Applications for the two different tracks (Basic and PoC) of the Second Round of the Telethon multi-round call for research projects 21-24 and the relevant documents are now accessible on the Tetra portal https://projects.telethon.it.

Applications to the Second Round will be accepted up until Tuesday, February 28th, 2023. You can find below the Applicants guidelines, the sample pdf of the online Application and the Finance document for funds management.

Research projects can be submitted into one of the following tracks:

  • Track BASIC RESEARCH

focused on the identification of disease mechanism/s and/or disease target/s

  • Track PRECLINICAL PROOF OF CONCEPT

focused on the identification and validation of therapeutic candidate/s

The call is open from December 23rd, 2021 and will close June 30th, 2024. Projects will be accepted for the whole period for which there will be four different rounds, corresponding to four specific deadlines. Both tracks will be available in each round, and applicants can apply to one track per round, with one research project. Each round and track will have a dedicated peer review process and competition.
