The main objectives of the Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Core (AMIC) are to provide technical assistance, expertise, and qualitative and quantitative evaluation of microscopy data for research projects at TIGEM. The Core is composed of two separate divisions: the Light Microscopy Division and the Electron Microscopy Division. The Light Microscopy Division provides users with the equipment and know-how to monitor cell behaviour in real time, and also to visualize proteins inside cells with high spatial and temporal resolution. The division is equipped with the latest imaging technologies, such as wide-field, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, live imaging, image acquisition, digital image analysis as well as basic and advanced applications (deconvolution, 3D rendering). Moreover, the staff of the Light Microscopy Division provide technical assistance to TIGEM researchers for the use of optical instrumentation, consultation and training in the use of the various techniques of light and fluorescence microscopy, image analysis and processing and data transfer and storage, and in performing independent and collaborative research for the development of our advanced imaging-based technologies.
The Electron Microscopy Division allows researchers to analyze the ultrastructure (with resolution down to a few nanometers) in cells and tissues, as well as to determine the localization of proteins at the sub-organelle level, and therefore to complement the information obtained by light/fluorescent microscopy.

The "Total Award" amount indicated for this project represents the share of the funding of the Telethon Foundation for research by the Tigem institute from July 2016 until last budget year, calculated based on the size of the research group.
